Description:

This software engineer position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining production web environments using Apache, Tomcat, and Java including Java web and security frameworks and related enterprise edition technologies in support of various UW organizations. This position also evaluates, installs, upgrades, and supports various third party products using Java related technologies.

Position Complexities
* Knowledge and experience with Apache, Tomcat, Java and Java Frameworks, web scripting languages (Perl and/or Python), web services. Strong Java development skills.
* Effective verbal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of customers and peers.
* Working knowledge of security infrastructure issues including authorization, authentication, access control, and policy administration.
* In depth knowledge of Linux.
* Demonstrated ability of work independently, as part of a team, and as a team leader.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field

Minimum of four years of experience performing progressively more complex and responsible tasks in a complex distributed computing environment. Experience should demonstrate initiative and self motivation.

Additional Minimums

Extensive knowledge and experience developing and supporting large, complex distributed systems and infrastructure services.

In-depth knowledge of and experience with security infrastructure issues including authorization, authentication, access control, and policy administration.

In depth knowledge of and experience with Apache, Tomcat, Java and Java Frameworks, web services, and additional Internet technologies. Strong knowledge of Linux.

Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply new technologies

Experience in complex technical projects involving multiple teams.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to work effectively as part of a team.
Desired:
Experience in a research university or other academic institution.

Conditions of Employment:
A satisfactory outcome from a criminal history verification may be required prior to hire.

Must be able to respond to outages during off-hours.
